Swiss Racing Team was founded by Swiss engineer Othmar Welti and German engineer Erich Kolb in 2000. Place of business is Inwil (Lucerne, SUI). From 2000 to 2009 the team competed in the German and European Formula 3 series with international pilots. Since 2007 the team has been participating in FIA GT1 and has been successfully cooperating with well-known pilots (e. g. Karl Wendlinger, Alex Müller, Ryan Sharp).
In 2010 the team will be an “Official NISSAN Customer Team” in the newly created FIA GT1 World Championship and will be running two NISSAN GT-R cars.
Othmar Welti knows motor racing well. From 1990 to 1996 he worked for Sauber (computational and instrumentation engineer), from 1995 to 1998 as a race engineer for KMS (German Formula 3 champion with Norberto Fontana and Jarno Trulli, second in the championship with Timo Scheider) and in 1999 as a race engineer for Bemani (second in the Formula 3 championship with Marcel Fässler). Overall he was significantly involved in 33 Formula 3 wins before starting the Swiss Racing Team. In January 2000 Othmar Welti took the chance and became managing director. "After ten years as an employee in motor racing the time was ripe to accept more responsibilities. The Swiss Racing Team has motivated people, who have a lot of experience in motor racing,” says Welti.
Erich Kolb, team manager and chief engineer for engines, earned his spurs working for ABT Sportsline, Spiess Tuning and KMS (together with Welti) and made his mark in motor racing. "The Swiss Racing Team is still a big challenge for me, even after ten years,” says the German.
